How to Mold Intuition Liners

Did you just buy new boots with moldable liners but didn’t get them molded?

Need to know how to mold Intuition style thermal liners?

Option 1: Visit your local ski shop with expert knowledge and tools.

Option 2: We recommend Option 1.
If you have no other choice, your Wife’s CONVECTION OVEN will have to do.

Here’s how to do it.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Remove your liners and foot beds from the boots
- WASH and DRY your used liners.
- Use mild soap, do not put them in the dryer.
- Be patient, let them dry completely or
you may burn yourself with leftover water in the material!!!

Prepare your workspace and your boots
- Adjust buckles, straps and laces so that when the liners are hot you are ready to do up your boots properly without any delay.  Time is of the essence when the liners are hot.
- Make sure nothing will snag the liner on the way into the boot.  Tape over any obstacles.
- Wear your ski socks during the molding process.
- Place a “Toe Cap” over the front quarter of your foot to create a more spacious toebox in the mold.

Getting started
- Pre-Heat your CONVECTION OVEN to about 200 degrees farenheit.
- You can always turn up the heat, but you can’t fix scorched liners.  Start with less heat, increase only if needed.

*You must have and use the CONVECTION feature on your oven only.  DO NOT BAKE YOUR LINERS.  If you don’t have a convection oven stop right here.

The Oven
- Place only 1 liner in the oven at a time.  Heat the liner for 3-5 minutes and check its progress at least every minute.
- When the liner goes from its relatively firm feel to a soft and mushy piece of material you are done.  Pull it out, don’t burn yourself.
- The liner should be very warm, but not too hot to handle with your bare hands.
*Do not overheat your liners.  They will shrink and become useless.

Step 5

Step 6

Step 7

Step 8

Molding
- Work quickly.   The liner is setting fast.
- Insert your foot bed squarely into the warm liner.
Make sure the left foot bed goes in the left liner which goes in the left boot. And Vica Versa of course.
- Put your foot into the liner.
-If you have a liner with a regular looking tongue, proceed to step 7.

The Wrap
- If you have a wrap style liner, wrap the inside fold, the one between your ankles, underneath the outer fold which goes overtop of the first fold.  I remember it by saying “inside to the inside” to myself.
- Hold the liner in place by pinching it between your forefingers and thumbs.

The Insert
- You probably need a friend to hold your boot open as you slide your foot in.
- Lift up on your toes as you slip in to help guide the liner to the end of the shell.
- Once you foot is in all the way, give your heel and toe a few taps to insure the liner is seated firmly and entirely into the boot.

Do Up Your Boots
- If your boots fit tightly and your goal is to make them feel looser, now is the time to crank the buckles/laces.
- If your boots fit loosely, leave your buckles/laces relatively loose.
- The liners will cool over 5-10 minutes and are ready to use.

* If you messed up your mold by running out of time, you can try again.  But not too many times.  Try to get it right the first time.
* If your first boot was a success then proceed to your second boot.
Otherwise, come to Fanatyk Co in Whistler Village and we can help you get it right.
